We are recruiting for passionate, enthusiastic, extraordinary Assistant Winemaker to join our team at Black Hills Estate Winery.  Black Hills Estate Winery is situated on the scenic Black Sage Bench in Oliver, British Columbia and has been producing premium wine in this region since 1999. Known for the Nota Bene Bordeaux inspired blend, our focus is precise vineyard management, minimal intervention in the winery, and world class wine experiences offered to the thousands of visitors we see annually.

Reporting into the Senior Winemaker, the Assistant Winemaker will assist in the winemaking process from grape harvest through to bottling, ensuring compliance to specifications, maintaining and maximizing quality and efficiencies, as well managing and leading cellar and harvest teammates.

We are looking for a teammate with:

  • Diploma or degree in Science, B.Sc Oenology and Viticulture or Food Science or Equivalent
  • Leadership experience and a commitment to excellence and high standards
  • Experience in cellar operations (food manufacturing preferred) as well knowledge of WHMIS, HACCP, and GMP's
  • Strong organizational & communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, multi task and work under pressure in fast paced environment
  • A passion for the wine industry and a desire to pour extraordinary into everyday life 

You will be accountable for:

  • Management and leadership of Cellar Teammates
  • Communicate with Winemaker on the status of the respective ferments, movements, lab analysis and cellar activities/processes
  • Actively participate in tastings of juices, ferments and finished wines
  • Management of data in WIS, Innovint and Excel (including troubleshooting) including production of work orders (and accurate calculations of additions), Input of completed work orders (and follow-up on tank measurements), troubleshooting of data base errors; Crop and Wine production forecasts
  • Management of information pertaining to BCVQA and participation on industry committees as required
  • Maintaining a clean and sanitary winery in accordance with CFIA guidelines
  • Follows safe work practices & procedures
