We are currently recruiting for a detail oriented and quality focused Winemaker to join our team for a 13 month maternity leave contract. Reporting to the VP, Winemaking , the successful candidate will be responsible for management of all Ontario corporate vineyards and vineyard leases, scheduling, directing, and managing of all grape intakes and providing viticulture support to Andrew Peller Limited's (APL) Table, Sparkling and Ice Wine programs.

The successful candidate will be accountable for:

  • Winemaking at Trius Winery to support corporate VQA premium programs for all brands
  • Capital and operational budgets
  • Providing viticulture direction to custom management company for all vineyard operations
  • Conducting research & development trials to enhance vineyard performance and quality
  • Establishing and executing grape intake strategy and scheduling accordingly for APL properties
  • Assisting Supply team to ensure qualitative grape specifications and formulations can be executed and reporting any inconsistencies
  • Arranging harvesting and logistics of all APL vineyards and maintaining regular communication of vineyard status with custom management company and VP Winemaking
  • Providing direction and support to Trius Winemaking team for all winemaking activities associated with A and B level wines
  • Promoting a health & safety culture by ensuring a safe and healthy work environment through effective operation of the Health and Safety program, joint H&S committee (if applicable) and compliance with EH&S regulations

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications/skills:

  • Agriculture/Viticulture, Oenology or Food Science
  • 3-5 years experience within a related field with a strong farming and viticulture background
  • 3-5 years premium winemaking experience
  • Proven technical understanding of vine and grape physiology
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Self-starter and highly organized with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and multiple tasks within tight timelines
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and influence others
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, winery database software, and knowledge of ABS
