The Wine Shop (TWS) is a vibrant and healthy one hundred and one store retail system devoted to pouring extraordinary into everyday life through best in class customer service and experiences! Whether our customers shop us for quick and convenient access to their favourite wine brands, or for guidance in matching the perfect wine with their food experience, we want The Wine Shop to be their first thought.

With a team of approximately 18 direct reports and 100-150 indirect reports, the District Manager focuses on driving to achieve/exceed sales and customer service targets through the training and development of team members. Influencing through hands on coaching, implementing merchandising plans and monitoring store operations is critical. This position requires flexible availability including days, evenings and weekends.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Conducting store visits to evaluate and identify business opportunities to improve sales growth, profitability and exceptional customer service.
  • Recruiting, onboarding, and coaching direct reports to ensure performance/talent/service excellence among all team members as well as assisting in these functions for indirect reports; recognizing when to engage Human Resources to assist with performance management concerns.
  • Executing sales/merchandising plans and analyzing district sales results to ensure successful completion of district goals and objectives; Assisting Store Managers in understanding sales reports and providing guidance in action plans to achieve sales targets.
  • Participating in South Central district's forecasting and business plan development.
  • Reviewing store classification to ensure proper product mix, wine accessory inventory is maintained. Implementing any product and shelf plan strategies directed from Senior Management.
  • Maintaining awareness and reporting on competition in the marketplace.
  • Taking initiative to make a difference in the organization. Challenging the status quo! Being innovative within district and share best practices to impact performance across the organization.
  • Ensuring the district's stores maintain and follow standard operational procedures, loss prevention policies and human resources guidelines.
  • Promoting a health & safety culture by ensuring a safe and healthy work environment through effective operation of the Health and Safety program, joint H&S committee (if applicable) and compliance with EH&S regulations.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications/skills:

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma retail management or Business/Commerce preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a retail leadership role within a multi-store environment.
  • Strong business acumen with a creative desire to increase sales.
  • Ability to generate excitement within your team and inspire others to follow your direction.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills.
  • Comfortable in a fast paced, telecommuting environment.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office with a focus on Excel.
  • Flexibility for evening and weekend work when necessary.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with previous District Manager experience with best in class retailers.
